Title
Authorization to seek bids for the sale of surplus water meters.
Body
Summary:
On August 15, 2023, City Council awarded Performance Services, Inc. (PSI) the contract to install Advanced Metering Infrastructure throughout the City. The meter installations began on April 8, 2024. As the new meters are installed, the old meters are removed and stored at the Luella Complex. The old meters are made with brass bodies and therefore have salvageable value. With that in mind, Staff is requesting to seek bids from scrap metal buyers to sell the surplus water meters in bulk. The bidders are to provide a total dollar amount to purchase all 12,000+ water meters, provide containers for storage at the Luella Complex, and haul the meters from the site periodically as the project progresses.
If approved, the Notice to Bidders will run in the Pasadena Citizen on August 28th and September 4th with the bid opening taking place on September 9th.
Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:
Any proceeds from the sale of surplus water meters are recorded as revenue in the Water Sewer Fund.
Recommended action:
