Summary:
The purpose of this item is to purchase shade structures for the Dow Park, McHenry, and Monroe parks. On November 7, 2023, City Council authorized the purchase of shade canopies for the Dow Park playground. However, it was mutually determined by the contractor and Parks and Recreation staff that addition shades would not cover the playground due to site logistics. It was recommended that the shades be placed else where to get the most value from the funds. City evaluated various City parks and it was determined that new shade canopies would be installed over the McHenry Park workout equipment and the Monroe Park playground equipment. Additionally, the damaged shade fabric over the 2-5-year playground at Dow Park would be replaced. These shades structures will be utilized to cover the equipment at these parks to keep them cooler in the summer months and allow users to play on the features during warmer temperatures.
City Staff has received a quote from USA Shade & Fabric Structures, LLC via Buyboard to purchase the structures for $65,410.00. $80,000 was budgeted for the purchase of these shade structures in FY 23-24.
