Summary:
On October 3, 2023, City Council approved entering into a grant agreement with Harris County to construct a hike and bike trail. The City of Deer Park staff submitted a grant application to Harris County in the first half of 2023 for the potential development and construction of a hike and bike trail. The trail is proposed to begin in the vicinity of the Deer Park Nature Preserve and extend south towards Pasadena Blvd and the Deer Park Adult Sports Complex. The proposed project was submitted to Harris County for consideration. The City of Deer Park was notified of a conditional approval and agreement of the grant application.
The City of Deer Park began working with Harris County to develop the scope of the project and begin the construction plan process. However, cost estimates for the project came back higher than expected. The City was approached by Harris County to see about securing additional funding for the project if it could be matched by the County. Harris County Commissioners Court has approved additional funding ($100,000) for the project and provided this City with amendment to the original agreement for an additional $100,000 to be provided by the City of Deer Park.
