Title

Consideration of and action on a resolution authorizing the submission of a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) application for backup generators.

Body

Summary:

With this action, Council is authorizing the application of a HMGP application for backup generators at our lift stations.  We recently hired the firm CCM Advisors to assist with writing this application.  Additionally, Public Works Director David Van Riper and his staff have performed a considerable amount of work gathering information for the application.  We are seeking fixed backup generators at 14 lift stations.  These would be of great importance during times of extended power outages, such as Hurricane Beryl last summer.  If we were to receive all requested funding, the grant would provide $487,445 and our local match would be $162,482.  Our matching funds would come from water and sewer fund reserves.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

If funded as requested, the total project cost would be $619,047 with the City’s portion of this being $162,482.
