Summary:
On April 7th, 2025 the City of Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department presented the Deer Park Comprehensive Master Plan for Park, Recreation and Open Space 2024-2034 to the Deer Park Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC). PARC took action to formally recommend the Master Plan for City Council approval. The Deer Park Comprehensive Master Plan for Park, Recreation and Open Space 2024-2034 is now ready for consideration of and action on the Plans acceptance.
In 2023, The City of Deer Park and the Parks and Recreation Department embarked on a cooperative effort with Texas A&M University to develop a new comprehensive master plan with new conceptual designs of parks and open space within the City. Undergraduates, Graduate Students, Professors, Community members all worked on this collaborative effort to develop the new proposed plan. Parks, Open Spaces, Recreation programs were all discussed during various focus group meetings, staff discussions, and a community input survey. Data was gathered and utilized to develop the various concepts in the proposed comprehensive master plan ranging from use of open space, to community travel connections, community health concepts, and several others.
In addition, the plan will be a vital element in the City of Deer Park’s various grant applications, such as Texas Parks and Wildlife grants, state and nation accreditations, community open space development, recreation programming, and future maintenance and upkeep of the City’s greenspaces. The ideas and insights gathered from various forms of community input in the proposed comprehensive master plan will provide the City with both flexibility and a clear vision for the future of Parks and Recreation in the community.
