Summary:
The Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Budget for the Sanitation Department includes funding for commercial garbage collection and residential waste disposal. During the year, the City experienced a 5% rate increase for commercial garbage collection from Waste Management. The City in turn increased the billing to commercial customers by 5% to cover the fee increase; the revenue increase can be seen in account 010-000-32020, Commercial Garbage Fees. In addition, the City experienced a cubic yard rate increase in disposal fees for residential trash. These two factors caused a net variance of approximately $158,000.00 in the Sanitation Department’s budget. A budget amendment in the amount of $160,000.00 is requested to appropriate the additional funds necessary to fully fund the Sanitation Department for the Fiscal Year. This additional appropriation would be funded by the unassigned fund balance of the General Fund.

Add $160,000.00 to the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget for the Sanitation Department ($160,000.00 in Account No. 010-402-42200, Commercial Garbage Collection) to be funded by the unassigned fund balance of the General Fund, which is available for this purpose.
