Title

Consideration of and action on approval of Amendment No. 3 to the current contract with Schaumburg & Polk, Inc. (SPI) for additional services for the Deer Park Terrace Street Reconstruction project.

Body

Summary:

The existing pavement on W. 4th Street has deteriorated drastically.  It has been in poor shape for years.  Although it is adjacent to the existing construction currently going on, it was not included in the original scope of services for the Deer Park Terrace Street Reconstruction Project.  However, the road has continued to deteriorate especially with the heavy construction trucks currently driving on it.

The Public Works and Engineering Department met to discuss the possibility of adding W. 4th Street to the scope of work on the current project.  The contractors are already mobilized in the area and it would save money and time to have the reconstruction of W. 4th added to the contract, rather than bidding it as a separate project.

SPI has proposed an additional cost of $77,445.00 be added to their existing agreement for engineering design services.  This additional cost will include the engineering design, updated plan sheets, cross sections, construction phase services, etc., in order to include paving and drainage modifications on W. 4th Street.

This current agreement with SPI is $657,378.40.  The revised contract amount will be $734,823.40.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

$77,445.00 will be funded from the year 2021 General Obligation Bond.

Recommended action
