Summary:
On February 1, 2021 the City entered into a professional service contract with Schaumberg and Polk, Inc. (SPI) for the design of streets, drainage and utilities in the Deer Park Terrace Subdivision which include Linda, Robin, Irene, Maxie and west 3rd Street. The streets within the project limits are relatively flat with little to no underground internal drainage. All of Robin, Irene and Linda Streets sheet flow south/southeast down the street to a single outfall pipe at the southeast corner of Irene Street. The outfall pipe ties into a storm sewer manhole on Avon Street.
SPI was tasked with designing the streets to drain the subdivision while navigating through existing underground utilities and around numerous trees adjacent to and encroaching onto the existing roadway surface. After weeks of site visits the consultant developed and presented four scenarios to staff for consideration. After a thorough internal review and lengthy discussion with the consultant, staff decided on the plan that provides for adequate roadway slope to drain all the streets and underground storm sewer piping (Alternative 1A). As design progresses a tree protection plan will be developed by an arborist who has contracted with SPI.
This project was advertised publicly and we received bids on August 22, 2024. The proposal included an alternate bid to install new street lighting as well.
