Title

Discussion of issues relating to restructuring of Public Works Department.

Body

Summary:

At this time, the City Manager will give an overview of plans to restructure the Public Works Department.  Over the past several years, Engineering has been a division of Public Works with the Public Works Director serving as City Engineer or the position of City Engineer filled by a different person who reports directly to the Public Works Director.  Prior to that, Public Works and Engineering were two (2) different departments.  Given upcoming personnel changes amongst key staff within the Public Works Department, the City Manager would like to return to having these responsibilities split amongst multiple departments.  It is proposed a new Planning & Development Department be created to handle engineering, code enforcement, capital projects, and permitting.  All other responsibilities of the current Public Works Department would remain under Public Works.  City Engineer Dilcia Jiminez would become Director of Planning & Development/City Engineer.  This new position will report directly to the City Manager.  All of this will be explained in greater detail on Tuesday evening.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

In total, all proposed changes are anticipated to be cost neutral.
