Awarding bid for the demolition work at the Deer Park Court and Theater building.

Summary:
It was previously discovered that significant structural issues were occurring within the columns at the Courts and Theater building. A structural integrity study was completed and several options were presented to the Deer Park City Council during the November 5th, 2019 City Council workshop. Based on the various options, Staff was directed to begin the process of removing the columns for safety reasons and to complete drainage improvements. Staff received permission to solicit bids on December 17, 2019 for the following items:
1. Removal of the columns and archways located on the east side of the Courts and Theatre building.
a. Removal of 3 walls including glass canopy.
b. All exterior light gauge steel framing, structural steel, and all damaged stone.
2. Installation of drainage improvements on the east side of the Courts and Theatre building.
a. Install drainage system in front of building to remove rainfall run off which will include 417 linear feet of buried 6 inch HDPE system, 12 catch basins and boring under the walk way.
Bids were solicited on the demolition discussed above through the City of Deer Park's normal bid solicitation process. Sealed bids were opened in the Deer Park City Council chambers on March 10, 2020. The City of Deer Park received two bids for the completion of this work. Attached you will find a copy of the bid tab and recommended bidder. City staff is also currently working on the civil engineering for the drainage and that portion of the project with be put out for bids at a later date.
Funding for this project is provided by contingency of the Capital Improvements Fund, which is available for this purpose.
Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:
$ 51,000 Capital Improvement Fund Contingency (Bid amount from Frost Construction).
