Title

Consideration of and action on a Resolution joining with the State of Texas as a party in the Texas Opioid Settlement Agreement; Authorizing the City Manager to execute settlement participation forms; and establishing an effective date.

Body

Summary:

In 2021, Council authorized the City’s participation with the Texas Attorney General’s Office in a settlement agreement with several pharmaceutical companies to settle claims connected to the national opioid crisis.  All Texas municipalities were encouraged by the AG’s office to participate in that settlement agreement, and were anticipated to receive a funding allocation for doing so.  With this action, Council is accepting Deer Park’s settlement participation with Kroger and authorizing City Manager James Stokes to sign an “Subdivision Participation Form” regarding the State’s settlement agreement.  City Attorney Fox has reviewed this matter and recommends its approval.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

Allocation funding to be determined.

Recommended action
