Title

Update on 2025 Special Election for Crime & Fire Renewals.

Body

Summary:

The brochure was mailed to all the residents in Deer Park.  Copies were given to Fire & Police departments to pass out.  One Rotary and one Chamber meeting was conducted by members of Fire & Police departments.  The electronic signs at city facilities reflect the election dates and times.  The City website has the information in multiple locations.

Early Voting is at City Hall in the City Secretary’s office on the following days:

Tuesday, April 22nd                                           7am - 7 pm

Wednesday, April 23rd                                           7am - 7 pm

Thursday, April 24th                                          8am - 5pm

Friday, April 25                                                                8am - 5 pm.

Monday, April 28                                           8am - 5 pm

Tuesday, April 29th                                           8am - 5pm

Election Day is at City Hall in the Council Chambers.

Saturday, May 3rd                                          7am - 7pm

Each district will need to hold a special meeting either on May 7, May 12 or May 13th to canvass the election results.  The actual date will not be known until after the election is completed on Saturday, May 3rd

The canvass cannot occur until the early voting ballot board has: (1) qualified and counted all provisional ballots, if a provisional ballot has been cast in the election; (2) counted all timely received late-arriving ballots, including next business day, military and overseas ballots; and (3) counted all ballots contained in previously defective carrier envelopes which were corrected by voters by the required deadline.  The “canvass” - is the official examination of the votes cast in an election.  Two members of the authority constitute a quorum for purposes of canvassing an election [§ 67.004].

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

Funds have been budgeted in FY 2024-25 for the cost of this election.
