Title

Discussion of Naming/Branding of New Recreation Center.

Body

Summary:

For the past several months, an ad hoc committee consisting of Councilwoman Ford, Councilwoman Garrison, Councilman Martin, and several members of staff have met to discuss the potential naming/branding of the new recreation center being constructed immediately to the west of City Hall.  The purpose of this was to consider having the facility identified by a “branded” name, as opposed to named after a person or given a more generic name such as the Deer Park Recreation Center.  Other municipalities previously have done something along these lines with their recreation centers.  Examples from Texas include “Das Rec” in New Braunfels, “The Epic” in Grand Prairie, and “The Rec” in Grapevine.

Committee members recently voted to recommend to Council the facility be branded “The DAC” which is an acronym for Dow Active Complex.  This matter now moves to Council for your consideration.  If Council is agreeable to this brand/name, staff next will create potential DAC logos for Council to review at your meeting on May 21
