Summary:
On January 4, 2022 Harris County Commissioner’s Court voted to approve Interlocal Agreement 2022-50 between Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and the City of Deer Park. HCFCD is taking the lead on this project, which will address flooding problems identified within the College Park subdivisions, which as reported repetitive flood losses in several homes from various rainfall events. The project will also include storm sewer system improvements, new detention basin and will provide the minimum 2-year conveyance capacity as well as alleviate structure flooding. Along with the drainage improvements, the associated streets, sanitary lines and sidewalks will be reconstructed.
In the original Interlocal Agreement 2022-50, the city’s participation equated to 49% or $3,245,352.00 of the estimated $6,598,231.00 design and construction cost. The city paid this amount to HCFCD back in February 2022.
Currently, the city has received a proposed amendment to the Interlocal Agreement (ILA) 2022-50, for the purpose of adding additional funds in the amount of $3,287,014.00. The amendment states that each Party will provide 50% of the increased cost, which means the City would contribute an additional $1,643,507.00 to HCFCD.
Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:
Funding will be provided by the 2021 Drainage GO Bonds.
