Title

Consideration of and action on an ordinance appointing one member to the Crime Control and Prevention District due to change in council.

Body

Summary:

Since Councilmember Martin is leaving council, his appointee to the Crime District expires when his term does.  Incoming Councilmember Ripley wishes to continue to have Victor White serve on the Crime District as his appointee as well.

This ordinance re-appoints Victor White to continue to serve as Councilmember Ripley’s appointee. His current term expires on September 1, 2026.

The State statute (Crime Control and Prevention District Act) which enables creation of a CCPD also specifies the manner in which appointments to the board of directors are to be made.

Section 363.1015 (b) and (c) of Chapter 363 of the Texas Local Government Code states:

(b) the governing body of the municipality or county may create a board by having each member of the governing body appoint one director to the board, subject to confirmation by the governing body.

(c) A director appointed under Subsection (b) serves:

(1) at the pleasure of the governing body of the municipality or county; and

(2) for a term concurrent with the term of the appointing member.
