Title
Consideration of and action on purchasing traffic signal detection cameras for three intersections via HGAC contract # PE-05-21.
Body
Summary:
Over the years, the Public Works Department has been updating the technology at various traffic signal intersections. One of these updates is the installation of traffic detection cameras. The new technology alleviates underground wiring and provides staff with the ability to manage the system from laptops and the traffic cabinet. Transitioning from the current traffic loop system to a camera system will improve the reliability of the intersection. The camera system will eliminate concerns about the aging loop wire and enhance efficiency and capacity. This upgrade will improve the maintenance and time management for the traffic division.
The Public Works Traffic Division was budgeted a total of $51,000 to purchase and install traffic detection cameras at two intersections.
• The intersection of Center Street @ 13th Street ($26,000 budgeted)
• The intersection of Center Street @ 8th Street ($25,000 budgeted)
However, the traffic signal intersection at East Blvd. @ 13th Street is also in desperate need for upgrading. We requested a quote from Consolidated Traffic Controls (HGACbuy contract #PE-05-21) to perform the work at all three locations.
We are requested approval to purchase the traffic detection cameras for all three locations.
Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:
The quote received is for $59,396.00 which is $8,396 over our budgeted amount, however, we do have available funds within the traffic divisions budget, to absorb the additional cost. Funds were budgeted in account 010-405-49040.
Recommended action
Approve the purchase of traffic signal detection cameras for three intersections via HGAC contract # PE-05-21.
