Title

Consideration of and action on an ordinance to amend the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 General Fund Budget for the Police Department to replace the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

 

Body

Summary: 

The Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) that is used to fingerprint all arrestees will not be CJIS compliant as of October 14, 2025 due to Windows 10 no longer being supported.  The AFIS machine has an 8-week lead time; therefore, it is necessary to purchase the new machine now to ensure it is received and operational prior to the October 14th deadline.

The Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Budget for the Police Department does not include funding for the replacement of the AFIS system; therefore, a budget amendment is necessary.  The additional appropriation would be funded by the contingency balance of the General Fund. The current contingency balance is $250,000.00.    

 

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact: 

Add $27,000.00 to the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget for the Police Department (010-300-49040, Machinery and Equipment) to be funded by the contingency balance of the General Fund, which is available for this purpose.

 

Recommended action

Approve the ordinance to amend the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 General Fund Budget for the Police Department.
