Recognition of departing Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Jacob Zuniga.
Body
Summary:
Jacob Zuniga joined the City of Deer Park in August 2009 as a Park Operations Supervisor, serving in that role until September 2017 when he was promoted to Assistant Parks and Recreation Director. Throughout his long and successful 17-year career with the City of Deer Park, Jacob ushered through the completion of countless projects, of which there are too many to name. Amongst those include a vast and wide array of expansion, rehabilitation, and construction projects benefiting both youth and adult sports, both recreation and league play, in the community, grant funded projects and partnerships with Harris County for quality of life initiatives, and last but certainly not least, the construction of the City’s state-of-the-art Dow Active Complex (DAC) and new Jimmy Burke Activity Center (JBAC).
Jacob was instrumental in the City acquiring it’s Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) designation by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and in the City being credentialed as a Certified Autism Center (CAC) by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
In addition to these monumental achievements, Jacob is also a former Texas Recreation And Park Society (TRAPS) President Elect (2023), President (2024), and Past President (2025), demonstrating just how well respected and revered he is in the Parks and Recreation profession statewide.
At this time, we will recognize Mr. Zuniga and thank him for his dedicated service and contributions to the City.
