Consideration of and action on an ordinance replacing, in its entirety, Section 66-178, Schedule G relating to School Zones.

Summary: 

Both Deer Park ISD and La Porte ISD have changed their attendance hours at each campus.  This change has made it necessary to completely replace the existing Ordinance.  With this action, Council is replacing, in its entirety, Section 66-178, Schedule G of City Code related to school zones (see attached). 

Specifically, the ordinance prescribes locations where the School Zone hours for Deer Park ISD campuses, which are all designated 20-MPH, as follows:

DPISD Elementary Schools:                     8:00 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.

DPISD Junior Highs:                                          8:30 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

DPISD High Schools:                                          7:25 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

 

Two La Porte ISD elementary schools are located within Deer Park’s city limits.  The speed limits for these school zones are also 20-mph with the exception of East Blvd. at Heritage Elementary, which is designated to be 30-MPH.  The new attendance times are:

LPISD Elementary Schools:                      7:40 a.m. to 3:15:p.m.

Recommended action

Approve the ordinance replacing, in its entirety, Section 66-178, Schedule G relating to School Zones.
