Title

Presentation of the Certificate of Achievement Award in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) to the City of Deer Park Finance Department.

Body

Summary:

Congratulations are in order for the City of Deer Park Finance Department, after having recently received notification from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) that - for the 30th consecutive year - the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

The GFOA established the CAFR Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure to the public.

As stated in an August 2017 GFOA news release, “The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

As explained on the GFOA Web site, reports submitted to the GFOA for the CAFR award program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee (SRC), which comprises individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
