Title

Consideration of and action on an ordinance amending the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Water & Sewer Fund Budget for emergency repairs to a turbine pump at the Water Treatment Plant.

Body

Summary:

One of the vertical turbine pumps at the Water Treatment Plant gave out during Hurricane Harvey.   The plant supervisor had hoped to replace these pumps during the 2018-2019 fiscal year, but the hurricane accelerated that timeline for Transfer Pump #6.  The pump was removed for inspection and evaluation and it has been determined that the pump can be repaired, but the motor must be replaced.  The cost to overhaul and reinstall the pump is $32,122.44.  The cost to replace the motor is $3,752.19, such cost to be included in a FEMA claim for Hurricane Harvey (note: the pump had been failing prior to the hurricane, but the motor was working so only replacement of the motor will qualify as a claim).  Since repair or replacement of this pump was not included in the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Budget, a budget amendment will be required to cover the costs associated with the repair.  Northstar Industries removed and evaluated the pump and will also overhaul and reinstall this pump at the Water Treatment Plant.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

Increase the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Water & Sewer Fund Budget by $32,200.00 to be funded by the contingency line item included in the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Water & Sewer Fund.  Contingency funds are available for this purpose.
