Title

Authorization of a grant application to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for a Polaris Ranger Medical Transport all-terrain vehicle.

Body

Summary:

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation offers competitive grant opportunities to communities served by a Firehouse Subs franchise.  These awards are funded in 5 distinct categories, one of which is “Equipment.”  The Polaris Ranger Medical Transport ATV will be requested with this application.  This unit would be used at all community events where medical response could be required off of the public roadway, or on rare occasions where an automobile accident victim is located in a remote area off of the roadway.

The City does not currently own any such equipment, and access to patients that are off-road is generally done on foot by the emergency responders.  On at least one occasion, a motor vehicle accident resulted in a roll-over where the vehicle (and two patients) ended up over 100 yards off the public roadway.  Emergency responders had to walk to the vehicle, and then had to carry the patients through muddy terrain to access medical equipment (ambulance).

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grants require no local matching funds, and the grant is being submitted to cover 100% of the requested equipment ($21,936.04).
