Title

Authorization of a grant application to the 2018 Emergency Responder Health and Wellness Grant.

Body

Summary:

The VFIS of Texas (Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services) and Texas Mutual Insurance Company are co-sponsoring this grant opportunity for Health & Wellness related items.  Grants are awarded based on need, and are up to $5,000.  The Fire Department will apply for $5,000 to pay for applicant physicals (currently costing $295 each) and additional wellness-related equipment.

The City currently pays for physical exams for volunteer firefighter applicants, just as with pre-employment physicals for job applicants.  This program would allow the funding for firefighter physicals to be utilized for other wellness-related items, such as workout equipment.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

This funding would alleviate some of the current costs for physical exams.
