Consideration of and action on an ordinance to amend the FY 2018-2019 Budget for shelving and furniture for the Library refresh.

Summary:
In November 2018, the Library received notification that the City had been awarded a reimbursement grant in the amount of $5,200.00 based on the City’s Interlibrary Loan Program. Because 2018 was the first year the Library applied for this grant, the amount and timing of the funding was unknown. At this time, the Library would like to apply these grant funds to the overall refresh of the Library in 2019 as part of the celebration of the Library’s 50th anniversary. The intended use of these funds is to purchase and relocate shelves within the Library following the recent change from the Dewey Decimal System to BISAC/Word categories making the shelves more user friendly. Adding and relocating shelves will provide the necessary resources to offer genre shelving for more convenient browsing and increased circulation. As part of the refresh, the Library would also like to replace furniture and chairs that have deteriorated from wear and tear. These changes would enhance Library operations and benefit Library patrons particularly those interested in the genre shelving. The City is requesting an amendment in the amount of $5,200.00 for the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Library budget to accomplish these changes during the Library’s 50th anniversary year. This amount would be funded by the unassigned fund balance of the General Fund to which the grant funds will be added.
Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:
Add $5,200.00 to the FY 2018-2019 Library budget for Account No. 10-420-4308, Small Tools & Minor Equipment, to be funded by the unassigned fund balance of the General Fund, which is available for this purpose.
Recommended action:
Approve the ordinance to amend the FY 2018-2019 Budget for shelving and furniture for the Library refresh.
