Since 1985, Americans have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote the importance of parks and recreation in health and wellness, conservation and social equity, and to recognize the thousands of park and recreation employees that maintain our nation’s local, state and community parks. The National Recreation and Park Association encourages park and recreation agencies to showcase the ways that they are engaging their community through the many fun and exciting recreational opportunities offered at local parks and recreation centers. The main goal of Park and Recreation Month is to promote these opportunities and resources that local park and recreation agencies provide and to let the public know that July is a great time to get out and see all of the incredible things that are happening in their communities.
The City of Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a variety of events and programs throughout the month of July including 4th Fest, 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing, Camp Crabgrass, swimming lessons, Concerts in the Park, Movie in the Park, Dive in Movies, Gameroom parties, various sports leagues, senior programs, and a several nights of the theatrical production “Mama Mia!”
