Title

Presentation of the Deer Park Police Department’s fifth CALEA Re-Accreditation Award.

Body

CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) accreditation is a voluntary process whereby trained assessors verify that a police department meets the Commission’s professional standards to maintain accredited status, a status validating law enforcement excellence and one held by the Deer Park Police Department since 2006.

In August 2019, a team of assessors spent four days examining all aspects of the Deer Park Police Department’s Policy and Procedures, Management, Operations, and Support Services functions.  Upon completion, their findings were reported to the full Commission, who is the governing body that decides if an agency will retain its accredited status.

In November, 2019, City Manager James Stokes, Chief Greg Grigg, Assistant Chief Sharon St. Martin, Lieutenant Chris Brown, and Accreditation Sergeant Ian Sawtell, traveled to the annual CALEA conference in Covington KY, to appear before the Commission for a determination of our re-accreditation status.  The Commissioner who addressed our agency spoke of being extremely proud of the report he received regarding our agency, and recommended we be awarded re-accreditation, which the full Commission did award to us; a designation not easily attained.
