Title

Consideration of and action on a contract with SKE Construction, LLC in the amount of $223,451.00 for concrete paving and parking at Fire Station #2 and the Firemen’s Rec Hall using BuyBoard contract #520-16.

Body

Summary:

Improvements to the u-shaped driveway behind Fire Station #2 leading to the Firemen’s Rec Hall were included as a PSLO in the current budget.  This was done as an estimated amount in order to obtain actual costs once it could be determined how much of the surface should be improved.  Several options were considered, and the ideal option would be to improve the entire u-shaped roadway and include a small number of improved parking spaces.  A plan was designed by our Public Works and Engineering staff, which includes these desired improvements and includes 17 parking spaces near the Rec Hall.  Completing this entire project would cost more than was allotted in the PSLO; however additional funding is available in this budget line account due to another budgeted project being postponed.

The cost of the project has been quoted through the BuyBoard contract number 520-16 by SKE Construction at $223,451 for completion of the entire project.

The PSLO for these driveway improvements was allocated $120,000 in the current budget; however, the fire department also has another project budgeted in the same budget account in the amount of $165,000.  The second project has been postponed until next fiscal year (at the earliest), so those funds could be utilized to complete the driveway project if so elected by Council.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

The budget for this project was initially estimated at $120,000; however, a second project in the same budget account was allocated $165,000.  Combined, there is $285,000 available in this budget account; therefore, completion of this project will leave approximately $60,000 remaining in the budget account.
