Title

Consideration of and action on an ordinance to amend the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget for Emergency Medical Services.

Body

Summary:

The Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget included overtime costs for Emergency Medical Services.  During Fiscal Year 2019-2020, the City implemented two emergency pay periods during which all hours worked were paid as Disaster Response Pay and recorded as overtime. The first emergency pay period, in response to the Harris County Stay Home, Work Safe directive, was for the longest period and while the second emergency pay period related to Hurricane Laura was for a much shorter period, both were extended for certain public safety personnel, including Emergency Medical Services employees. This resulted in a more significant amount of overtime than was budgeted for the fiscal year.  While favorable variances in other line items offset a portion of this extra expenditure, a budget amendment in the amount of $102,200.00 is requested to appropriate the additional funds necessary to fully fund Emergency Medical Services for the fiscal year.  This additional appropriation would be funded by the unassigned fund balance of the General Fund.

Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:

Add $102,200.00 to the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 budget for Emergency Medical Services (Account No. 010-312-41040, Salaries Overtime), to be funded by the unassigned fund balance of the General Fund, which is available for this purpose.
