Summary:
On June 6, 2017 council awarded construction of Phase 2 of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement Project in the amount of $13,636,685 to LEM Construction. The contract included a 3% owner contingency allowance (OCA) line item in the amount of $397,185 to be used by the city to authorize additional improvements/enhancements to the facility as the project moved along. Staff authorized $350,095.72 of the OCA funds to be spent, with the most expensive item being $175,000 for the purchase and installation of launder covers on our three clarifiers to save on potable water use.
The contractor has completed the final punch list and City staff is recommending acceptance of the project and release the remaining 5% retainage, amounting to $689,085.17. The workmanship is acceptable and the city has taken possession of the facility. Acceptance of the project by council will also start a one-year maintenance period that is required in the contract documents.
Fiscal/Budgetary Impact:
$689,085.17 out of the Water & Sewer Certificates of Obligation
Recommended action
Accept the project and closeout the project.
