Summary:
Funds were approved and allocated in the FY 21-22 Capital Outlay Fund budget to be complete the final phase of replacement of the Dow Park pedestrian bridges. During the December 7th, 2021 City Council authorized the addition of $30,000 via a budget amendment to purchase and install these bridges. A budget amendment was requested due to increases in material costs associated with manufacturing the bridges exceeding what was previously budgeted.
City staff is now looking to utilize the funds to replace the final 2 of the 8 pedestrian bridges in Dow Park. This will be considered Phase 4 of the Dow Park Bridge replacement project. The pedestrian bridges are widely used in Dow Park to help patrons navigate along trails and sidewalks. These bridges require a considerable amount of maintenance and have been subject to vandalism. The Parks and Recreation Department has begun a proactive maintenance program for the replacement of these bridges in an effort to improve safety and improve aesthetics in the park. Phase 1 through 3 have already been completed in 2021 and this final phase is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022
