Summary:
Section 205(C) (2) of the City Charter states the City Council, "Shall, upon recommendation of the manager, appoint the city secretary, deputy city secretary, and all other department directors." With Bill Pedersen’s retirement as Public Works Director, the Public Works department has undergone a reorganization. Ms. Jimenez was appointed to the Director of Planning & Development/City Engineer which will cover Planning & Development, Capital Improvements, Permits as well as Engineering.
The Public Works Director position will handle the other parts of public works. This position was posted and the final three candidates were interviewed on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
The City Manager has offered the Public Works Director position to David Van Riper and he has accepted it. This appointment is now being submitted for Council confirmation. Confirmation ordinance is attached.
